Africa is emerging as a market with great potential for Vietnamese rice exports, according to the Viet Nam Food Association. In the first nine months of the year, African countries imported over 4.79 million tonnes of rice from Viet Nam worth US$2.05 billion, making the continent the largest importer of Vietnamese rice during the period. Vietnam has successfully bid for selling 187,000 tons of rice to the Philippines at a bidding round held early this month with the participation of Vietnam and Thailand, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

Vietnam's rice exports from February 01 - 28, 2013 amounted to 340,184 MT, worth FOB $147.581 millions, CIF $153.670 millions. Rice exports from Jan 01 - February 28, 2013 totaled 744,408 MT, worth FOB $331.093 millions, CIF $338 millions.
